The route passes through El Malpais National Monument which is one of the largest lava flows in the U.S., El Morro National Monument, the tribal lands of the Ramah Navajo and Zuni Pueblo, the North Plains, while crossing the Continental Divide twice. The finish is along the Sandstone Bluffs with a direct view of La Ventana Arch in the Narrows.

Trip is Filled. 9pm. White Sands National Monument Moonlight Ride. On these nights, the Dunes Drive is re-opened for three hours after dark for bicycles only. Advance registration required. The City of Albuquerque’s Park and Recreation, Outdoor Recreation Section will conduct a comprehensive bicycle-training seminar on Saturday April 28, 2007. The class requires a commitment of time from 9:00 a.m. sharp to 12:30p.m. Please bring a bicycle and come with clothing to work. The day will be seminar format; topics covered will include bike maintenance, brakes, derailleur adjustments, headsets, bottom brackets, and wheels. Some sections will be hands on while others will be demonstration only. No parts will be offer for participants to repair their bike at the class. Space is limited to ten participants. Join cyclists nationwide in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on America's public roadways. And to RAISE AWARENESS that we are here and to ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD at 7:00 pm. The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors, no registration fees and no t-shirt. The ride, which is being held during Bike Safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured.

The Institute is a nonprofit organization that offers counseling and support to families facing the devastating diagnosis of blindness in their child and educates providers on the need for early-in-life thorough eye exams. The annual (bicycle) Race Across America. Competitors must travel close to 3,000 miles in 9 days to be competitive. They do so by racing approximately 22 hours a day over mountains, across deserts and through the manifestation of pain and doubt the likes of which are unparalleled in almost any other athletic endeavor on earth. Unlike other famous races like le Tour de France, RAAM has no stages or designated rest periods. The route changes year to year but is typically like San Diego, CA to Atlantic City, New Jersey!

The annual Katy Trail Ride allows bicyclists to experience Katy Trail State Park from Clinton to St. Charles. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Missouri State Parks Foundation annually hosts the ride. The ride covers approximately 225 miles of Katy Trail and 18 miles of the MKT Trail into Columbia. The surface of the Katy Trail is packed crushed limestone. This Bicycle Expedition is for girls ages 13 thru 17 on the day the expedition starts. The girls will go on a four day three night biking expedition from Bandelier National Monument to Albuquerque on June 24, 25, 26, 27, 2007. Pre-registration is required. Registration forms are available by emailing Chuck Malagodi at CMalagodi@cabq.gov. You can also request a registration packet by calling (505) 768-2453(bike), please leave brief message with your name, phone number and address. Registration packets can also be found on the City of Albuquerque’s web site at www.cabq.gov/recreation. For more information call 311. Space is filled on a first come/ first serve basis with only 10 places for riders available. Students and parents are recommened to attend a meeting on March 6, 4-5pm.

  • The cyclist will be expected to start training on April 15th at the Defined Fitness on McLeod Road NE on Sundays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.
  • After school lets out we will ride bikes on the road/trails once a week until the week of the ride with the exception of the week of the Fourth of July.

This Bicycle Expedition is for Boys ages 13 thru 17 on the day the expedition starts. The boys will go on a four day three night biking expedition from Bandelier National Monument to Albuquerque on July 29, 30, 31, August 1, 2007. Pre-registration is required. Registration forms are available by emailing Chuck Malagodi at CMalagodi@cabq.gov. You can also request a registration packet by calling (505) 768-2453(bike), please leave brief message with your name, phone number and address. Registration packets can also be found on the City of Albuquerque’s web site at www.cabq.gov/recreation. For more information call 311. Space is filled on a first come/ first serve basis with only 10 places for riders available.

The Tour of the Nations is a 5-day recreational bike ride that winds its participants through New Mexico's Pueblos and mountain desert scenery. The riders will experience southwestern history as they are welcomed as guests at 3 of New Mexico's historical pueblos. The ride will begin in the Pueblo of Isleta, go on to the Pueblos of Acoma and Zuni. The riders will spend each night at a different pueblo where they will be treated to a tour, traditional meal, and dances. The event exposes participants to New Mexico's rare mix of natural beauty, history, and culture. The riders finish in Gallup for a reception dinner and receive tickets to the 86th annual Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. $600.

The Stonewall Century is a challenging 102 mile, 7,500' elevation gain, road bike ride along one of Colorado's most beautiful scenic highways, Hwy12, just north of New Mexico. Highway 12 is a Colorado State By-way and a National Forest By-way that The route climbs through the San Isabel National Forest crossing the 9,994 foot Cuchara pass. Ride from La Veta (7,003'), through Cuchara (8,045'), Cuchara Pass (9,994'), Stonewall (7,800'), and turn around at Segundo (6,500') and return to La Veta. 25, 50 and 102 mile options. This is a beautiful area in the shadow of Culebra Peak, a 14'er and the Spanish Peaks southwest of Walsenberg. Check the website for more details and registration.

Annual tour to benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation. 45, 65, 100 mile options. $45 registration - no pledges. The spectacular 65-mile LaSal Loop begins with a gradual climb through Spanish Valley south of Moab. The challenging, steep, 3,000 foot climb of the "Big Nasty" is broken into 3 sections offering the rider short breaks in between. An aid station is positioned with awesome views. Then the rider is rewarded with a memorable descent through forest colors down into Castle Valley to the Colorado River. The 100-mile route turns east to the Dewey Bridge. All routes then return along the Colorado River to Moab. There's a great lunch included.

The 2nd Annual Ancient Way Cycling Tour is a 30-mile ride along the Ancient Way, Scenic New Mexico Highway 53. All riders start at the New Mexico Mining Museum at 0900am in downtown Grants.

The route climbs out past he east flank of the Zuni Mountains to the Zuni-Acoma Trailhead, and then returns to Grants. This is an all-paved route. Prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in both men's and women's cagegories. Registration is $30. All participants will receive a commemorative tour shirt and race number.
