Day hikes near Albuquerque on weekends are the Club's most frequent activity. You don't have to notify the leader in advance, just show up prepared to hike at the pre-designated meeting place given in the Outings Bulletin. Club members can access the Outings Bulletin online or have it mailed.

There are usually several hikes to choose from each week, with difficulty varying from easy to very strenuous. See our information on how to pick a hike to select the best level hike.

Ongoing Day Hikes

On these hikes, everyone meets at the same time and place each week. Often the group self-organizes at the meeting place.

Sunday Afternoons

These hikes are intended for churchgoers and Sunday morning late risers. The group meets at 1:00 p.m. for what is usually an easy hike. The leader tries to pick a different hike each week.

Tuesday Evenings

In winter, the group meets at 5:45 p.m. to hike in the Elena Gallegos Picnic Area. In summer, the group meets between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. to hike the La Luz Trail before dark. Afterwards, many of the hikers meet at a local restaurant for refreshments and conversation.

Wednesdays–Summer Only

This group meets at 8:30 a.m. and does an easy to moderate hike in the Sandia Mountains. Their credo is, "We stop to smell the flowers and enjoy nature."

All Year

This group meets at 8:30 a.m. in the summer and 9:00 a.m. in the winter for a moderately strenuous hike in the Sandia Mountains. If you want to learn about every trail, near-trail, nook, and cranny in the Sandias, all you have to do is go on a few hikes with this group.
