A climber joining the New Mexico Mountain Club must demonstrate thorough knowledge of the following skills to obtain a Climber Rating.

_____ Standard climbing signals as used by the NMMC.

_____ Coiling ropes using both the mountaineer and butterfly coils

_____ The following knots:

_____ bowline
_____ bowline on a bight
_____ figure 8
_____ figure 8 rewoven
_____ grapevine
_____ waterknot
_____ munter hitch
_____ prusik.

_____ High angle rappel with a rappel device.

_____ Tying off a fallen climber to escape a belay

_____ Ascending a rope with prusiks

A climber with a Leader Rating may check off the above skills and sign below. To be awarded a Climber Rating, the applicant must, in addition to submitting this completed form, join the NMMC and have on file with the Climbing Chairman a completed and signed waiver form.
