Single-Pitch Leader Qualification Check Sheet

The following may be witnessed by any NMMC member of Climbing Leader standing. Tests will be administered only to persons holding basic climbing qualifications. Any test that is not completed satisfactorily must be repeated at a later date.
 
 

  1. Set up 4 separate top rope anchors using trees, boulders and traditional climbing hardware such as nuts, cams and hexes (no bolts).

  2. Demonstrate the ability to lead 4 separate 5th class single pitch climbs. This should include rigging previously established anchors (bolted or otherwise) at the top of the pitch for rappeling or lowering.

  3. Obtain a standard Red Cross first aid certificate or equivalent. Renew as necessary to maintain certification.

  4. Attend a field practice session of a mountain rescue organization, or participate in an actual rescue situation.

  5. Read and be familiar with the Standard Operating Policies & Procedures of the Technical Climbing Section of the New Mexico Mountain Club.
