First Congregational's Mission Statement

From our Bylaws:
The purpose of this congregation shall be to serve in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a sign and symbol of God's love for the world. As people of hope, we reach up, reach in and reach out with a radical openness to the diversity of God's gifts, to the forms of ministry to which Christ calls us, to the creative and renewing power of the Holy Spirit. Living between the pull of the future and the push of the past, we seek to be a Christian community that is:
as considerate of persons as Jesus;
as devoted to justice as the Old Testament prophets;
as responsive to truth as science;
as beautiful as art;
as intimate as the home;
as life-giving as the air we breathe.

We are a welcoming people, a church that reaches
out to invite and include persons of every age, tongue,
race, sexual orientation, and religious background.

We are a people of hope, who reach out with a
radical openness to the diversity of God's gifts. In this
spirit, we seek to reconcile with those who have been
condemned and injured not only by the Church but also
by society, and stand with them in their struggle for
equality and justice.

We affirm diversity in our members, in our staff,
and in our leaders. We believe that diversity brings
strength and a greater awareness of God's creation.

We are a searching people, seeking to learn God's
will and way for us, and we believe that God is still speaking
and calling us into new ministries of love, justice, and inclusiveness.
