Subject: RE: Barbour County Birth Records - LANTZ

Deb, although you sent this a month ago I kept it and just now am I getting a chance to reply. As I told your Mother, my grandfather Lantz stated to me on his deathbed that his full name was Absolum Stansberry Lantz. I am not sure exactly what or where the maiden name of Stansberry came from but there is some form of connection to the Lantz or now Lantz Corners in Pennsylvania. I have located the town on the map of Pa. and almost made it there this past summer. A lot of Grandfathers history is not known because they did not talk much about it. There is also a Lantz, Germany. I do not remember all the paticulars that he was trying to tell me on my visits as he was ill and I had just had Kathryn. I just remember bits and pieces and am trying to let you know so that they may be of some help. I must go for now. Love , Aunt Ginger

[NI1177] Jefferson is not with father on 1850 Census of Barbour County

[NI1178] Artinsy, daughter, living alone on 1910 census.

[NI1180] Never Married.

[NI1183] On Death Certificate for Meredith Lewis Lantz, date of death is listed as 1-17-1870. This appears to be changed. His age at his death is 59 years, 9 Months, and 15 days. This would support a date of birth of 1870. However, this conflicts with census records. This makes him 2 to 10 years younger than his wife.
On Marriage Certificate in 1884, he is twenty one and she is 18, making the years about 1863 and 1866 for dates of birth. I have a notion he was closer to twenty five, and she 16.

Living in Gering, Scotts Bluff, Nebraska in April, 1920.

[NI1184] Aunt Ruth stated Samuel was living in Alpena.

[NI1190] Not with mother on 1920 Census (City of Philippi). She told me she was living with her Aunt Selma Hill Poling and Uncle John Poling.

[NI1234] Carl Hill has Benton's ledger. Deena Hill has will and deeds.

[NI1365] Listed as 3rd child on Birth Register, Page 154, Line 994.

[NI1369] Listed as 5th Child on Birth Register p. 362. Also named as F. W. Relatives may have given me April 1897, or may have been from 1900 census. Check it out.

For some unknown reason, (ask Aunt Lucy, she may know) Teaberry and Uncle Fred weren't speaking. As a teenager Aunt Stanis went up to his front door, knocked, and introduced herself as his neice at his home in Phillippi. As she recalls she was well received. Isn't that too funny?

[NI1423] Deena Hill has will of Elizabeth and will of Charles Fisher.

[NI1434] Burial site unknown. Interestingly, John had died some 15 years before being named as an heir in the Final Account of William Hill. John died from Typhoid Fever while enlisted in the Civil War. This leads me to believe the family did not communicate with one another, or if so, very infrequently. Perhaps estate was settled from an old will? Perhaps information reported to Accountant was unknowingly incorrect. Perhaps John was mistaken for William Henry, who was omitted entirely.

Hi debbie,

No, Susie stays in touch. She lives in Portland. We were there over Labor
day. She planned a Japanese dinner. We have 5-6 birthdays in early September
so the whole family (except Linda (Dayton, OH) usually get together for a
'birthday' weekend. Susie was Nike's Production manager for sportswear in the
early eight's and lived in Japan for 2 years. Doug (Jennifer's husband) lived
in Japan also for a couple of years teaching english. Between the 2 of them we
had authentic (Portland has a great Japanese grocery) home made dishes (making
sushi was fun for the kids...but they did not eat much of it. Raw octopus must
be an acquired taste. Susie has her own home in Portland. And is taking a
little of her retirement early. She is currently looking for a new job. She
had been pretty unhappy for several years with her last company and volunteered
to be laid off with their last down sizing. She is starting to feel like it is
time to get back to work! She has been doing sewing projects for herself and
friends and is going to school in landscape architecture. She is the one of us
that got all of the talent for drawing, working with her hands. (Linda got the
most music {Ph.D., Cello performance})

Although Susie likes kids (she spoils her nieces and nephews rotten) she has
never me the right guy. She is now heavily involved in her church, but I think
still I think she will remain a confirmed spinstress! She is pretty set in her
ways (unlike us, of coarse)

It sounds like you are making time for genealogy again!!!! I really need to
take a break from work and get my information entered!

Mike

Susie comes up to Washington 2-3 times a year

[NI5594] Donna is retiring this year, 12/2000. She and her husband own the builder's center in Philippi, West Virginia. She and her parents lived in the big green house on Main Street in Philippi during her youth. Lurch from the Adams Family lived five houses up the street and used to walk to school with Fred. He would pick Donna up and toss her up in the air to hear her giggle. Clara use to worry that he might accidently hurt the baby, and when he and Fred were wrestling on the couch one day, it collapsed. Clara said had the baby been under the couch when that had happened she would certainly be dead and she would have "killed" Lurch, all 7+ feet of him, with her bare hands.

Obviously, Donna and Clara were very close. Clara had Donna very late in life and she understood later that she was God's gift to her. Clara died at peace in the comfort and love of Donna's arms.

Donna's husband Fred is to continue to work at Builders Center during the transition to new management and then will sell cars at his dealership. Tony will leave Builders Center to work with his father.

Donna is truly a remarkable woman. She stays active and fit. She was delightful in person when we met and I will always think of her very fondly.

[NI5856] 1930 Census suggests mother, Amanda was born in Illinois. Living in Gering, Scotts Bluff, Nebraska in April, 1920.

[NI5857] Funeral Services for Mrs. Wickard were held by The Reverend Larry Fanning of the First Baptist Church of Clearlake. [NI5859] 1930 Census indicates she was born in Kansas. Living in Gering, Scotts Bluff, Nebraska in April, 1920. Living in Lingle, Wyoming in November of 1929. Living in Glendo, Platte County, Wyoming in 1930. Living in Casper, Wyoming in 1938.

[NI5899] Wife is listed as a Widow on 1920 Census. 1920 Census is confusing about Mr. Case's origin. While it lists his children as born in Nebraska, with his birth in Nebraska and Lola's birth in Iowa, We see that it is the Mother that is from Nebraska and Mr. case is of Iowa from the 1930 Census enumeration of Lola B. The remaining children have both parents as being born in Nebraska. On the 1920 Census, there is a 4.5 year old child, presumably to this father.
