Albuquerque Community Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant designated for a public art project at Washington Middle School Park in Albuquerque. After meeting with neighborhood residents, artist Eddie Dominguez designed three brightly colored mosaic columns reflecting the diverse cultural and social economic mix of residents, some living in the area for 50-60 years.
When completed in 2002, the mosaic columns entitled Patchwork Memories/Cultural Geometry/Vignettes and Stories, mark the gateway to the neighborhood. The artist collaborated with students at Washington Middle School to involve them in the process of creating the mosaic tile images. |
