It didn't race, but it drew a lot of attention anyway. As far as we can tell, this is M1, the very first Marblehead, designed and built by Roy Clough. Now owned by John Snow, and lovingly restored by Greg Worth of Worth Marine.
J. R. LeBlanc's fiberglass replica "Cheerio I," showing the compromise "vintage spade" rudder. The rudder has a low aspect ratio, "old fashioned" shape, but moves as a unit -- the pivot point is about a third of the way aft of the leading edge. This arrangement gives excellent handling without spoiling the outline of the boat. The rudder position is about three inches aft of the original design.
The "Cheerio I" displays its supernatural ability to move in light air. At the wing mark on Mill Pond.
Vintage M's at the start. We had nine boats, of all eras. A 1936 design won!
