The 1996 Vintage Regatta

The 1996 Vintage Regatta was held in Spring Lake N.J. on October 5th and 6th. Determined skippers and spectators braved the chill and winds and had a wonderful time. If you click on any of the pictures below you'll get a bigger image; all larger images are JPEGs of 20 to 40K or so.

The Regatta was hosted by the Marbleheaders of Spring Lake, who sail a one-design based on a 1930's M class design. They are a great bunch and welcome visitors to come sail with them or just watch. Call Herb Strucek at 908 528 9156 for days and times when they are sailing. If you go, here's how to get to Spring Lake:

From New York and North: Take Garden State Parkway to Exit 98. Route 34 South to first traffic circle. Proceed 3/4 around to Route 524 East to Ocean. Bear Right on Warren Ave. at intersection of 524 and New Bedford Rd. Follow Warren Ave. across railroad tracks where it turns into Lake Ave. Continue to intersection of Lake and First, and look for the sails!

From Philadelphia and South: Take I-195 East. Exit to Route 34 South, and follow the directions above.

John Snow and an early M (8K)

Our President, John Snow. He's normally not a glum fellow, but there was too much wind to free sail that lovely 1931 Broom II.

An old M (8K)

It never fails -- we start to sail someplace and boats magically appear from attics and basements. A very old M, showing strong Cheerio influence.
