"Phan generated controversy in 2010 when she used the popular social networking site Twitter to harass a 16 year-old girl.[17] After receiving a negative comment from a follower, in which the follower criticized Phan's choice of subject matter for an upcoming Halloween video, Phan retweeted the comment in order for her followers to harass the follower. [18] The 16 year-old user was harassed by hundreds of Phan's followers; Phan continued to denigrate the girl in subsequent tweets. Phan later admitted that she purposefully retweeted the girl's message with the knowledge that she would be attacked, believing that it was an appropriate act of "revenge."
