Selected Projects

P-code for Data under Video. For Interlearn Corporation Dar Scott developed the detailed 250-page specification for kcSL, a programming language. The portable language kcSL was designed to be used in program segments hidden on video tape to be executed on a variety of computers and advanced television sets. The language was typed, polymophic and functional. Emphasis was on the pseudo-code definition. Detail was given to color models, picture transition models and memory models that would apply to all target platforms.

SPI-Based Microcontroller Bus. For J&M Systems Dar Scott created the internal standard for the J&M Bus, an I/O and interprocessor communications bus based on the SPI bus used on the 68HC11 microcontroller.

Instrument Manual. For J&M Systems, Dar Scott wrote the user manual for a data logger. The manual was designed for use by customers.

Proprietary Communications Standards Based on TCP/IP. For Modular Integrated Technologies Dar Scott developed several protocols to meet robustness needs. These were based on his extensive experience in sockets programming for TCP and UDP.

Instrument Communications Specification. CVI Laser Corporation asked Dar Scott to develop an RS-232 communications specification for a new family of instruments. Communication must be fast, reliable, extensible and able to handle chaining of instruments. Commands must be able to handle manufacturing needs (from burn-in to calibration), customer needs and customer support needs. Communication had to be independent of the execution of commands. This document was well received and formed the basis of product functionality review among scientists, production management, engineers, financial management and programmers.
