Deanna Morse
Deanna Morse is an independent filmmaker specializing in animation and personal short films and videos. Her works have been screened internationally, won awards at festivals, and are represented in permanent collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her films for children have been broadcast on Sesame Street and Romper Room, her experimental films on PBS and cable. She has been cited in several articles and books on contemporary animators, including Experimental Animation by Cecile Starr and Robert Russett and Women in Animation, edited by Jayne Pilling.
Deanna published an innovative interactive DVD of her films, ³move click move², which won an ADDY and Omni Awards. It contains three dozen films, hundreds of behind-the-scenes production photos, and animated and motion menus. The total video running time is over 2 1/2 hours. The DVD targets educators and students who want to learn or teach animation. Proceeds from sale of the DVD are building a scholarship fund.
Morse has been active in ASIFA for over a decade, as a board member and former President of ASIFA/Central, and as an international board member. She has served on numerous juries including the selection committees for ZAGREB 2004 and Hiroshima '98. She was chair of the 94 SIGGRAPH Art and Design Show, and has written several articles on animation and computer artmaking. She is currently treasurer of ASIFA/Central, on the board of ASIFA International, and is a professor in the School of Communications at Grand Valley State University in Michigan.
