Mary Lou Haynes
Mary Lou Haynes has served in numerous capacities in ASIFA/Central since the mid-1970's, including many years as a member of the Board of Directors. She has served as newsletter Editor and Coordinator for various screenings and programs.
She also served as Jury Coordinator and animation Jurist for several years for the Chicago International Film Festival (Cinema Chicago), and has been the"hostess with the mostest" for animators & artists visiting Chicago from around the world. In 1996, she established the International Helen Victoria Haynes WORLD PEACE Storyboard & Animation Competition in memory of her mother, and continues to fund and coordinate this event, which holds it's Awards Ceremony in conjunction with the annual ASIFA/Central Conference & Midwest Animator's Retreat. Mary Lou is an active musician, and is a long standing member of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Her work as a musician includes classical and popular musical styles. She has also served as a gospel choir director, as well as having fronted her own rock band. Her musical talents include vocals, keyboards, percussion, song writing and arranging. She is also a published poet. Mary Lou currently works as a cross platform software consultant in the computer industry, and is working on a variety of personal projects in the areas of music, dance, film and multimedia.
