Melissa Bouwman
Melissa Bouwman is currently a teacher at the Careerline Tech Center in Holland,Michigan. She teaches computer graphics, photography, and video production toHigh School students during the day, and teaches computer software to adults in the evenings. Melissa has also worked with middle school students in a summer camp environment. The summer students learn how to use a digital camera, experiment with TV Studio equipment to produce a music video, and create their own claymations.
Over the years, Melissa has gained a variety of experiences in the field of Media and Animation. Shešs worked in an Animation production facility, taught mildly mentally impaired adults about video production and produced a video about their college experiences, and has also done free-lance video work for various organizations. Melissa gained her first teaching experience through East Grand Rapids Schools, where she taught animation workshops for 2nd - 12th grade students. She recently completed teaching a course in video production at Grand Valley State University, and has taught software courses for Orchard View Community Ed in Muskegon.
Melissa would like to work in the field of animation...or at least teach animation in the future. Currently her main interest is in the Stop-Motion technique of animation, particularly puppet animation. (A big fan of Jan Svankmajer) She regularly attends animation festivals and film festivals, and is a member of ASIFA International. She's written articles on animation forASIFA Central that have been published in the international newsletter. Melissa studied video production and animation at Grand Valley State University, and graduated as the Outstanding Film and Video student in the class of 1994.
