Zigzag Bowl

This is the bowl formerly known as "horizontal herringbone," a name I decided I didn't like. This bowl is about 4 1/2" high by 10" in diameter, and has 171 parts. The body of the bowl is Honduran Mahogany. The accents are purpleheart. The pattern is constructed from walnut, cherry, Honduran mahogany, padauk, and maple.

This is a fairly difficult pattern to do. It took me about 4 or 5 batches to figure out how to do it properly. The final result is that each of the ten pattern wedges is made up of two layers of four chevrons of colored wood glued between two half-chevrons of maple. The process ain't pretty, but I'm mildly fond of the result.
