The route passes three ski areas and is littered with historic mining outposts and Camp Hale, the WWII training ground for the Army's 10th Mountain Division. Colorado / Utah Loop 496 25,000 Grand Junction, CO Grand Junction - Delta - Montrose - Ouray - Nucla - Moab, UT - Grand Junction. Glenwood Canyon Bikepath 27 pretty flat Glenwood Springs, CO Follows the Colorado River through the stunning Glenwood Canyon. It's almost all gradually downhill west from Dotsero. There are a couple of CODOT rest areas along the way with water. You might see some mountain sheep. Great Divide Route (NM)     Includes NM  Mountain Bike route from Canada to Mexico that runs through NM. A good book and detailed maps are available from Adventure Cycling. Parts of the route are on highways. Lake Tahoe  77   Tahoe, NV Stunning loop around the lake. Several pretty hard climbs. Some bikepaths or lanes. Stay away from South Lake Tahoe. Several major events. Don't miss the off-road Flume Trail along the east side. Ironhorse Bicycle Classic 47 5,500!! Durango, CO Challenging ride. Be prepared for bad weather. Goes over Coal Bank Pass and Molas Divide - Race the train. Usually a NMTS contingent participates. Moab La Sal Mountain Loop 66/95 6,515 Moab Utah Stunning loop through the La Sal Mountains. Mount Evans, 14,240 ft. 14/28 4000/7000 Idaho Springs, CO Ride the Highest Paved Road in the US. Start from Idaho Springs (28 mi) or Echo Lake (14 mi). Nice pavement, you might see mountain goats. It's above the tree line so you can see forever. Pretty constant 5-7% grade. Another classic climb. Rocky Mountain National Park Loop 499 25,000 Estes Park, CO There are several very popular loops that go through Rocky National Park that have some of the most stunning scenery around. Summit County CO Bikepath System     Summit County Colorado Miles of popular grade separated bikepaths connecting Keystone, Dillon, Dillon Reservoir, Silverthorne, Frisco, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain Resort, and Vail Pass to East Vail. A new bikepath over Swan Mountain is being built. The long descent into Vail is one of the most fun anywhere, long straight, wide, clean. Stunning scenery. These trails connect to the Vail Gore Valley Trail and then west to Avon to Glenwood Springs using the Eagle County bikepath system and CO6. Maps are available locally. Tucson      Tucson, AZ Kitt Peak Observatory - Drive west on Az86 to the turnoff to the Kitt Peak turnoff (signed) and park. The climb is all uphill, 12 miles, 3,300' elevation gain. Terrific views, interesting tours. Patagonia-Sonoita Scenic Byway - Take Az83 south from I-10 east of Tucson to Sonoita and Patagonia.
