New Mexico Packet Radio Information

Welcome to Packet Radio in New Mexico!

Packet radio (I'm not referring to APRS) used to be an extremely active mode across the state of New Mexico and country in the 1980s-1990s. However, with the availability of the Internet, packet use has declined since then. But an interesting thing is occurring at the present time -- more Amateurs are getting involved in packet radio once again! There are many reasons for this, including the increasing need for reliable emergency communications (including a means of transferring data and leaving messages/bulletins for people -- when the Internet and other communications systems have been cut at their knees).

Here in New Mexico, the makeup of our packet radio activity is in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, Ruidoso, Roswell, and Cloudcroft. While there are not many packet radio users as compared to the 1980s and 1990s, the packet community is made up of wonderful people. You are invited to build/purchase/borrow a terminal node controller (TNC) and tune to 145.01 MHz to join the interesting world of packet radio -- and help grow our packet activity.

For a map of where popular packet radio nodes are located around the state of New Mexico, please click the thumbnail below. These nodes allow packet users to connect to other packet stations across the state -- similar to a linkable repeater system. Enjoy!

Help update the above map!

I am constantly updating the above map of New Mexico's packet systems (BBSs, Nodes, DX Clusters, etc.). If you are a SYSOP, or just a regular packet user, please help! I am looking to get information about that BBS, PBBS, Node, or DX Cluster in your area.

Any little bit of information helps! Here is the information I need to make this map successful:

  • Callsign of system
  • Alias of system, if any (eg. ABQBBS, CAPILA, etc.)
  • Frequency the system is located on
  • Type of system (FBB, MSYS, X1J4 Network Node, etc)
  • Location of system (City, mountaintop, etc.)
  • Longitude/Latitude of system (Optional, but this really helps when plotting on map!)

Please email me with the information above. It would be greatly appreciated. If you do not know any of the info above, but do know the SYSOP of a particular system, please pass this message along to them and have them contact me. Thank you!
