About Myself... Welcome to my website! I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico (Grid square DM65) and became licensed at the age of 12 in 1992. I am active on all bands from 80 meters to 70 centimeters, as well as 10 GHz wide-band FM. My favorite modes include CW, QRP CW, SSB, FM, satellite communications, packet, APRS, and other digital modes. I'm also interested in transmitter hunting and ARES/RACES.
I used to author Worldradio Magazine's "Youth Forum" column, as well as ARRL's "Youth@HamRadio.Fun" web column, both to motivate the ultimate future of our hobby -- our youth. Along the same lines, I'm the recipient of the 1997 Newsline Young Ham of the Year and the 1999 ARRL Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Award, both of which are awarded annually to one young Ham in the United States for his/her efforts towards promoting and helping improve Ham Radio for all. A few of my greatest memories in Ham Radio include my first Field Day with Jay Miller WA5WHN -- a great mentor whose son Jeremy KB5OMD helped me become interested in the hobby; operating on the air with my late grandfather Ed ("Whitey") W5RMY; learning the ropes of transmitter hunting with Jim Baremore K5QQ, Ed James KA8JMW and Joe Riggs AB5YC; and serving on K2BSA staff at the 2001 National Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Virginia, where Ham Radio was promoted to literally tens of thousands of scouts through teaching them and getting them on the air. I would like to thank the countless Hams I know, both in New Mexico and elsewhere, who have mentored and motivated me all these years. Ham Radio is the best hobby around, and it's the people who have fun and get involved who make it so. Enjoy this site, as it's been created for you. Let me know what I can do to make it a better resource, and please send your comments, as I enjoy hearing from people who visit! See you on the bands. 73 and good DX, |
