II Encounter of Moroccan and Spanish Cinema

Professor José María Caparrós Lera participated in the II Encounter of Moroccan and Spanish cinema held in Martil (Tetuán) on February 23-25, 2001. The conference theme was "Cinema and Immigration."

Caparrós Lera’s presentation, titled "Young Spanish Cinema and the Emigration from the Mahgreb," was followed by the two most representative Spanish films on the subject: Montxo Armendáriz’s Las cartas de Alou (1990) and Llorenç Soler’s Saïd (1998).

During the conference the following films were also screened: Imanol Uribe’s Bwana (1996), Adolfo Aristarain’s Martin H (1997). Also presented at the conference was the new book by the Moroccan critic, D. Khattabi, El cine en los países subdesarrollados (Cinema in the Underdeveloped World, 2000), published in Arabic.

This second conference, in Arabic and Spanish, was organized by the Club Martil pour le Cinéma et la Culture, with the collaboration of the Asociación de Trabajadores Inmigrantes Marroquíes en España (ATIME) (Association of Moroccan Immigrant Workers in Spain), based in Madrid.
