Albuquerque Community Foundation Sets Record in 2006
Charitable Assets Top $52 Million and sets Grant Record With Nearly $2.2 Million Awarded
Albuquerque — June 26, 2007 — The Albuquerque Community Foundation announced its charitable assets had grown to over $52 million at the end of 2006, up 22.5% over 2005. The Foundation’s assets represent thousands of contributions over its 26 year history to support charitable causes throughout the greater Albuquerque area.
The Foundation’s unprecedented growth can be accredited to many individual local donors; some of whom prefer to give back to the community during their lifetime, some who leave estate gifts. One such estate gift added to the George Clayton Pearl Family Endowment to benefit Environmental & Historic Preservation. An architect, George Pearl promoted regional architectural traditions. He served as a historic preservationist in New Mexico for 50 years.
Dr. Barry Ramo, the Foundation’s Board Chair feels privileged to serve during this outstanding year. “For 26 years the Foundation has built a reputation based on trust. Donors know their philanthropic gifts will be invested wisely and the Foundation will carefully respect their wishes and their legacy.”
2006 was also a record setting year for grants. “Since July 2006, $2.2 million has been awarded to nonprofit organizations,” states Nancy Johnson, Program Director, “bringing the total for 26 years to $16.5 million.” Grants are awarded in fields of interest including Arts & Culture; Children/Youth at Risk, Education, Environmental & Historic Preservation, Health and Human Services.
“We celebrate this record year of endowment growth, grantmaking, and the difference our donors are making in the lives of so many people in our community,” said Randy Royster, Executive Director, “we look forward to continued growth which allows the Foundation to provide more grants and community collaborations that will benefit our community, now and forever.”
